These are the basic rules for the Seniors Section competitions.

Note however that the text presented in an individual IG competition set-up will supersede any information on this webpage.

Overall governance of these rules is by the Seniors Section Committee.

ELIGIBILITY

Only fully paid-up members of the Club may take part in Club Competitions.

Unless otherwise stated entrants must be age 55 or over.

Handicap restrictions may be in place for competitions.

These are stipulated in IG for each competition.

KNOCK-OUT MATCHES

To enable a knockout competition to be run, a minimum of 16 singles/pairs are required. If the number of entrants is fewer than this, a league format may be implemented providing the number of singles/pairs reaches 12.

All matches MUST be played by the date indicated for the round. The name(s) drawn first in a knock-out match are responsible for the initial contact to arrange the match date.

Extensions to the defined dates for any round may be allowed if the course is closed for a prolonged period at the discretion of the Seniors Competition Secretary. But please note normal practice is that extensions are NOT allowed and can only be granted at the discretion of the Competitions Secretary. If the competitors are unable to agree a date to play their match a coin-toss can be performed by the HUB.

If a scheduled match is cancelled by an individual or pair, then they will forfeit the match unless a new date can be agreed within the timeframes set by the Competition Secretary for the completion of the round in question. Note both parties must make reasonable effort to rearrange the match.

Finals of knock-out competitions must commence on the 1st tee as per the instruction stated in the wider Club’s Rules.

In the event of a dispute, a final decision regarding the resolution or outcome will be made by the Competition Secretary.

TIES

Ties in match-play competitions will be decided by extra holes, sudden death, played in sequence from the 1st hole played in the match, with handicap strokes allocated as in the first 18 holes.

Ties in Stableford or Medal competitions are resolved by scorecard countback over the last 9, 6, 3 or 1 hole(s).

TEES

Seniors generally play off the Yellow tees for all competitions. However, competition specific starting arrangements may be stipulated in the individual completion rules and detailed on IG.

Some competitions will have a tee booking system in place. Otherwise, the starting grid must be used unless specific instruction is given by the Hub.

ENTRANCE FEE USAGE

Depending on the format of the competition, the entrance fee is allocated for the procurement of prizes and/or a monetary award and may include contributing to the end of season prize giving. A small contribution may also be allocated to the section fund.

Details of the apportionment of monies/prizes will be described within each competition on IG. Note all money won will be credited onto the bar card account of the winners.
