Social and Bridge

Social members can attend any of the club’s social and entertainment events and have many opportunities to develop and practice their bridge skills.  Organised bridge events appear in the club diary. A summary of what is on offer is given below:

‘ Supper’ bridge  

Usually on the 1st Wednesday evening of the month (at least 12 players needed). Very informal Chicago bridge evening with a 1 course supper. Friendly and helpful welcome guaranteed for those new to the game.  In December there is a special Christmas event with dinner and prizes plus a raffle in support of the captains’ charities.

Duplicate bridge

Usually on the last Wednesday evening of the month. A relatively informal duplicate pairs competition with results emailed the following day. 

Inter club matches 

‘Teams of four’ matches against local golf clubs. Home and away matches over the autumn and winter months in the afternoon or evening. Refreshments usually provided at half time at modest cost. Competitive but friendly!

Men vs Ladies matches  

Twice a year - same format as inter club matches - perhaps the most competitive bridge matches we play! Played on a Wednesday evening with a 1 course supper half way.

Golf & Bridge vs MCC 

Annual men’s event in May alternating between Mid-Herts and MCC venue. 18 holes 4BBB followed by a lunch and teams of four bridge match. 

Mixed Charity Bridge Drive 

Open Chicago bridge event in March in support of the captains’ charities - members are welcome to invite friends (non-members) to this event. Afternoon event including afternoon tea.   

Ladies winter league 

Ladies pair up in 4 groups to accumulate points over the winter playing Chicago bridge. Winners of the 4 groups contest the semifinals with the eventual overall winners being crowned champions for the year.

Ladies special ‘golf day’ bridge drives 

While other ladies are playing in the Spring and Autumn meetings, Lady Captain’s Day and Christmas Texas Scramble, non-playing ladies participate in a bridge drive with prizes - then join the golfers for a celebratory meal.

Informal Chicago bridge - just turn up - on Tuesday and Friday afternoons.
